Fire at Mama's Caboose!

Well, this was sure a shock to both Nik and me. Mama's Caboose, the wonderful little coffee shop at the Berkeley Heights train station that we played at a bunch last summer, caught on fire on Wednesday, May 12. Luckily nobody was hurt and the structure is undamaged, but the fire is probably devastating for proprietor Kim Zagorski, and it certainly gets in the way of our plans to play at the shop over the summer.

Rest assured, we'll be branching out to other open mic nights in the area (eyeing up Van Gogh's Ear and The Crossroads at the moment), so you should still be able to catch us at some point this summer. Oh, and of course, we will be the first to play at Mama's Caboose as soon as it re-opens!

Welcome to the Science & Progress blog!

Hey, glad to be back! I was originally running our blog off of Wordpress, until I realized that Wordpress doesn't give me some key features that Blogger does offer. So, here's the new version of the blog, re-vamped and ready to provide the latest information on Science & Progress.

But hey, let's be honest. You probably don't know who we are. Yet. Well, Science & Progress is a musical collaboration between singer/songwriters Evan Minto (guitar) and Nik Barbera (piano), currently based in New Jersey. Last summer we worked on putting together a setlist of covers and released some original songs on a little self-published EP, "Tales From the Caboose," but this summer we plan on expanding from Mama's Caboose, the awesome little Berkeley Heights coffee shop where we played most of our shows. In 2010, Nik and I are planning to play a bunch of open mics and other shows all around Union County, New Jersey, and you might even see a full-fledged original album along the way.

We're sure excited to be back together for the summer, and we hope that you'll be able to come out and see us sometime. Peace!
